Pepperoni Pizza & Mushrooms(by Wolfgang Puck)
Artistically, the design and presentation of this product is great.
It's definitely an attention magnet in the pizza section. But there are
a couple of statements on the front of the pizza box that I'm curious about.
First, the statement "HAND MADE" appears. Is one to believe that these
pizzas are hand made? Perhaps it's referring to the hands that run the
machinery in the factory where these pies originate. It's worth noting that
the pizzas are also shrink wrapped in plastic. I wonder if that's
done by hand.... The word "CALIFORNIA" also appears on the front. Hmmmm....
Sicily, Genoa, Milan, Venice.....ah yes, all great California cities world
renowned for their pizza pies. The product tastes great and is visually
impressive but at 11 ounces and approximately 8 inches in diameter it
ranks as a featherweight of the pizza section. Pepperonis are advertised
on the packaging and boy does it deliver. In fact, I had to remove a few to
see the remainder of the toppings present(tomatoes, mushrooms, and cheese).
I have to admit that initially I was a little puzzled by the cooking
directions. Unfortunately the first direction states not to microwave.
Next you're instructed to remove the pizza from its plastic wrapping. This
is followed by:
. So does this mean I just leave
the pizza on my top rack and let pepperoni, cheese, mushrooms and whatever
else drip down onto my oven's floor?? Or worse yet, onto the heating
elements of my oven and possibly start a grease fire?? To be fair, the final
instruction states:
. Quite frankly, this act doesn't
prevent spillage. Once anything hits the foil, it has already
spilled. On a final note I feel some clarification is in order regarding
this statement:
"EXCESS MOISTURE" = GREASE!
